About The Position

This is a highly responsible technical position within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, specifically the Florida Forest Service. The role requires a skilled aircraft mechanic holding a current Airframe and Powerplant License, certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The mechanic will perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding, and alterations on assigned reciprocating engine aircraft and turbine engine helicopters, as well as scheduled inspections. The position involves complying with airworthiness directives, completing inspection forms and logbook entries, ordering parts, and maintaining a safe and orderly workspace. The mechanic will also coordinate with supervisors and pilots to analyze and repair aircraft malfunctions, deploy to field locations for mechanical, fuel, and helibase support, and perform routine/emergency maintenance on facilities and ground support equipment. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with building and ground maintenance, administrative tasks, and property inventory, and responding to emergencies like natural disasters.

Requirements

  • Certification as an Aircraft Mechanic by the Federal Aviation Administration with Airframe and Powerplant Ratings
  • Possession of a valid driver license
  • Occasional to moderate travel required
  • Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding and alterations on assigned reciprocating engine aircraft and turbine engine helicopters as prescribed by applicable Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Perform scheduled inspections on assigned aircraft
  • Research files for applicable airworthiness directives and comply with them using computers, microfiche and paper manuals
  • Complete necessary inspection forms and entries into logbooks and computer records
  • Request parts to be ordered in a timely manner
  • Maintain workspace in a safe, neat and orderly manner
  • Coordinate with the supervisor and pilots in analyzing reported malfunctions of aircraft and assist or perform the necessary repairs or adjustments to these discrepancies
  • Deploy to field locations as necessary to provide mechanical, fuel and helibase support to deployed aircraft
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance and repairs to maintenance facilities and ground support equipment
  • Assist with building and ground maintenance, administrative tasks, property inventory, etc., as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
