The Aircraft Mechanic III (LUH72) A&P performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications to aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty. The role involves maintaining and repairing aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. The mechanic applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and provides technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints and manufacturers' manuals. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting and repair procedures, as well as the ability to determine the functionality of complex electrical systems. The mechanic is responsible for accomplishing inspections, launching and recovering aircraft, performing operational checks of all aircraft systems, and maintaining aircraft appearance and cleanliness. The role also includes operating ground support equipment and using hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft maintenance.
