About The Position

Aircraft Mechanic I Performs diagnostic and repair work involving fixed and/or rotary-wing pressurized cabin, passenger aircraft with multi-engine reciprocating or turbine engines, and single-engine non-pressurized aircraft for special purpose and passenger use. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Aircraft Mechanic II Performs advanced diagnostic and repair work involving fixed and/or rotary-wing pressurized cabin, passenger aircraft with multi-engine reciprocating or turbine engines, and single-engine non-pressurized aircraft for special purpose and passenger use. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Aircraft Mechanic I: 1 year Fixed/Rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work.
  • Aircraft Mechanic II: 3 years Fixed/Rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work.
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Airframe Mechanic-Certificate
  • Powerplant Mechanic Cert
  • Federal Aviation Administration circulars, orders and regulations
  • Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair techniques
  • Repair and maintenance of hydraulic pumps
  • Preventive maintenance methods and procedures
  • Schematic electrical wiring
  • Mechanical systems, equipment operation and maintenance, repair techniques
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
  • Hazardous materials management methods and procedures
  • Applicable laws, rules, and regulations

  • Troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic and mechanical components and subsystems

  • Diagnosing problems and repairing equipment to include electronic and mechanical components and subsystems according to defined codes and specifications
  • Read and work with color coded electrical wiring
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Travels with aircrew to perform aircraft maintenance-related activities and/or repair and retrieve grounded aircraft.
  • Assembles and installs electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Conducts routine and non-routine aircraft maintenance inspections as required by regulations.
  • Diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and/or overhauls aircraft components and systems to include aircraft engines/assemblies involving electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Disassembles engines and inspects parts such as turbine blades and cylinders for corrosion, wear, warping, cracks and leaks using precision measuring instruments, magnetic inspection equipment.
  • Inspects airframes for wear or other defects; checks for corrosion, distortion, and invisible cracks in the fuselage, wings, and tail, or propellers using magnetic inspection equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces pumps, engines, propellers, instruments, landing gear, airframe, control surfaces, and/or fuel systems.
  • Moves critical aircraft components using specialized equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes.
  • Reports completed maintenance and repair work to lead worker.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provides assistance to other mechanics in maintenance or repair procedures.
