About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic I position at M1 Support Services involves performing maintenance and repair tasks on aircraft, ensuring their safety and functionality. The role requires troubleshooting various aircraft systems, conducting inspections, and executing repairs using specialized tools and equipment. The mechanic will work in a fast-paced environment, often under tight deadlines, and must maintain a professional demeanor while dealing with stressful situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum 5 years performing aircraft maintenance functions in a military environment and attainment of a US Air Force 5 level (or equivalent) is required.
  • Minimum three years aircraft maintenance experience on fighter aircraft.
  • Working knowledge of principles applying to aircraft systems, concepts and applications of maintenance directives, data reporting, and using technical data is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of USAF supply and efficiency reporting procedures is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory.
  • Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be able to work days, nights or weekends, as required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers and basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain the security clearance level as mandated by the government customer.

  • Experience with advanced aircraft systems and technologies.
  • Additional certifications related to aircraft maintenance or repair.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturers and airlines maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks, and listens to operating engine to detect and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Inspects jet engine turbine blades to detect cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn-out, security or breaks.
  • Tests engine operation, using testing equipment, such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distribution timer, ammeter, and jet calibration tester to locate source of malfunction.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes.
  • Adjusts, repairs or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts and checking brakes.
  • Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
