About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. We are currently seeking to hire an Aircraft Mechanic Helper at our Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, CA facility to provide Aerial Target Operations and Maintenance Support to the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons, Pacific Target and Marine Operations Division. The primary duties of this position typically include (but are not limited to): Maintain, repair, and document Support Equipment (SE) PMS, which include target maintenance stands and transport devices, launch equipment, as well as ancillary equipment such as generators and compressors. Operate and be qualified (technically and medically) in forklift operations and overhead crane operations. Perform under direct and indirect supervision, conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on support equipment and/or targets and utilize basic troubleshooting techniques. Assist under supervision target decontamination process/procedures. Maintenance work on BQM-177, BQM-34, and GQM-163 aerial targets and associated support equipment. Work will include work/teardown on the target airframe and assist on electronics, avionics, and associated launch systems and support equipment. Perform testing under supervision to ensure functionality in accordance with procedures defined in NAVAIR manuals using specified test equipment. Operate and be qualified (technically and medically) in forklift operations and overhead crane operations. Perform and understand basic tool control and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Additional duties may include (but not be limited to): Could involve direct support to BQM-34, BQM-177 and GQM-163 target operations by assisting in target build-up, target transportation, and target decontamination processes. Requires ability to interpret technical manuals. Qualified in the handling and use of associated ordnance in support of target operations. Ordnance could include but not limited to small CADS (pyro technic devices), RATO/JATO, and flares. Work in a technical capacity as a team member or team on frequent trips to field activities & vendors. Other duties as assigned (Parachute packer, HAZMAT…)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in performing general maintenance and repair.
  • Experience in a military environment or on a military facility helpful, but not required.
  • Computer/Networking/MS Office experience.
  • Ability to work well with others, strong communication skills and a customer service attitude are all essential to success.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications & data collection which will include manufacturing instructions and process specifications to perform preventative maintenance services on launch support equipment.
  • Must be able to independently plan and support efforts, including timelines, possible cost estimates requiring parts and equipment, shipping & travel arrangements and coordination with the end user.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain an interim U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to starting and a final Secret clearance within 90 days of hire date and maintain your clearance throughout your employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • In-depth knowledge of naval target maintenance practices to properly disassemble and reassemble several aerial target types is highly desired.
  • Technical writing skills to assist in documenting new manufacturing and/or assembling instructions for new designs developed in-house is also desired.
  • Must be able to be a team player and work in a technical capacity as a team member on frequent trips to field activities and vendors.
  • Should be familiar with naval target maintenance (CNAFI 4790) programs.
  • Should possess basic mechanical-avionics background or engine experience.
  • Experience in a military environment or on a military facility helpful, but not required.
