Responsibilities include servicing, repairing, and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines to ensure airworthiness. The role involves repairing, replacing, and rebuilding aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. The technician will read and interpret OEM maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. The position requires examining engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks and evaluating operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions, such as sticking or burnt valves. Inspections of turbine blades to detect cracks or breaks, testing engine operation using testing equipment, and replacing or repairing worn or damaged components are also part of the job. The technician will remove engines from aircraft, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects, and reassemble and install engines in aircraft. Additional responsibilities include adjusting, repairing, or replacing electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories, performing miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, and conducting routine inspections such as 50 and 100 hour inspections. The technician must be able to test run and taxi aircraft during busy airport operations while communicating with air traffic control, troubleshoot and repair deficiencies reported by aircrew, and read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics. Experience in repairing composites using specialized equipment is a plus.
