About The Position

This position oversees the maintenance of agency aircraft and requires expertise in aircraft engines, parts, and systems, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Responsibilities include managing third-party maintenance contracts and ensuring compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, departmental standards, and cooperative agency requirements. Duties involve scheduling, coordinating, and inspecting maintenance projects, monitoring costs and contractor performance, and conducting routine aircraft maintenance as needed. Under general direction, this position inspects, certifies, directs, and assists in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of various aircraft, from light single-engine piston aircraft and helicopters to single engine turbine aircraft and helicopters.

Requirements

  • The Aircraft Maintenance Inspector must have knowledge of aircraft engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance to include experience working on both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Eligible to obtain a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Inspector Authorization (IA) Certificate.
  • Valid Alaska Driver`s license
  • Must pass a background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • The ideal candidate will possess experience with piston and turbine engines (preferred PT6 and Saffran helicopter).
  • Possession of an FAA commercial pilot license is highly desirable but not required.
  • Submit any training certificates for Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) PT6A - Small Series Line & Base Maintenance, Airbus Helicopter's H125 Airframe Field Maintenance, SAFRAN Turbomeca USA Arriel 2D Level 1 and Level 2 line maintenance or Robinson R44 Factory Maintenance Training courses.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a Quality Assurance Evaluator with knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools of quality assurance and quality control used to ensure a product fulfills functional requirements and standards for aircraft and avionics maintenance contracts, ensuring work schedules and proper priority of projects.
  • Serves as a technical specialist in the development and evaluation of maintenance contract specifications, modifications and pre-award reviews.
  • It is the inspector's responsibility to ensure the aircraft's timely completion and airworthiness to the maximum extent possible with multiple vendors.
  • Must have knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance and the ability to consistently schedule, inspect and evaluate repair of aircraft in a safe manner in adverse conditions and follow all the applicable Federal Aviation Administration Regulation, Advisory Circulars, Airworthiness Directives, the Department's Operating Procedures Manual, the Aircraft Manufacturers Service Manual and Service Bulletins.
  • Must satisfy maintenance inspector qualifications which meet or exceed experience following federal, state, and current manufacturer recommended maintenance procedures.
  • Diagnoses discrepancies reported by pilot staff to determine appropriate repairs for mechanical and avionics problems
