About The Position

At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture. The Aircraft Dynamics Engineer will conduct aeroelastic and aeroservoelastic analysis and testing for fixed wing and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The engineer will work closely with the Flight Sciences and Structures teams to feed analysis results into aircraft design loops. They will work with various system experts (such as Motors, Flight Controls, etc.) in ensuring that aircraft capability is accurately captured in dynamic analyses. The dynamics engineer will support both component and vehicle-level modal testing and associated analyses. Finally, they will collaborate with the Certification team to ensure aeroelastic analysis and design methods align with certification requirements and drive component and aircraft-level test definition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in aircraft dynamic analysis and testing
  • Experience in the use of industry standard dynamics analysis software such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, etc.
  • Experience with aerodynamic analysis methods of varying fidelity (panel methods, CFD, etc.)
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and CAD tools (CATIA, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with dynamic analysis in vertical flight with analysis tools such as RCAS, particularly for novel aircraft configurations
  • Experience leading development and execution of aircraft Ground Vibration and Structural Coupling tests
  • Experience with vibration analysis and requirements development
  • Experience as a FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER)

Responsibilities

  • Lead aircraft aeroelastic analysis in areas including flutter, whirl flutter, control reversal, and divergence
  • Develop mass and stiffness representative structural FEM to support dynamic analysis
  • Support development of dynamic analysis processes and results for vertical flight loads
  • Conduct aeroservoelastic analysis on fly by wire flight controls systems
  • Work with system teams such as Structures and Flight Controls to develop requirements from dynamic analysis results
  • Lead component and vehicle-level modal test definition and execution, including structural coupling tests
  • Use test results to drive updates to structural FEM and updated requirements for structures and flight controls systems
  • Use a multidisciplinary understanding of aircraft design to proactively identify areas for improvement in design and analysis

Benefits

  • $85,000 - $130,000 a year
  • Competitive pay based on skills, experience, and industry background
