About The Position

The Chief Pilot at Xcel Energy is responsible for overseeing daily flight operations, providing leadership and supervision to flight crewmembers, and ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards. This role involves coordinating with various departments to maintain aircraft in optimal condition, supporting the Director of Aviation Services, and leading emergency response activities. The Chief Pilot also plays a key role in training new pilots and developing safety management systems.

Requirements

  • FAA Air Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with appropriate ratings.
  • At least 5 years experience in corporate aviation with knowledge of FAA regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily flight operations ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with Flight Operations Coordinator on trip construction.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of flight crewmembers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to ensure aircraft are in optimal condition and meet safety standards.
  • Maintain and review the aircraft Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
  • Work with the Director of Aviation Services to ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) are adequate.
  • Assist the Director of Aviation Services with department projects, budgeting forecasts, and reporting.
  • Screen and participate in the hiring process of new pilots.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new pilots focusing on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager on flight operations safety issues.
  • Perform duties as 'Flight Operations Lead' for the Aviation Emergency Response Plan.
  • Investigate and report on flight incidents or accidents, proposing preventive measures.
  • Establish and ensure revisions to the Flight Operations Manual and procedures.
  • Support the development and improvement of the department Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Maintain and review Aircraft Letters of Authorization (LOAs).
  • Maintain PIC currency in at least one type of aircraft operated by the company.
  • Keep current with industry developments through seminars and conventions.
  • Liaise with Air Traffic Control and ground operations to facilitate smooth flight operations.
