About The Position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in advanced solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. We are seeking a Project Engineer in Windsor Locks, CT, to serve as IPD Team Lead. In this role, you will lead an Integrated Project Discipline (IPD) team in the design, development, testing, and validation of jet engine pneumatic valves for commercial and military aircraft and rotorcraft. You will oversee the product lifecycle from concept to certification, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery. Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Prior experience in design, development, and validation of aerospace components, with demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with aerospace pneumatic systems or gas turbine engine components.
  • Familiarity with aerospace certification standards (FAA/EASA) and qualification processes.
  • Experience in CAD tools (e.g., NX or CATIA) and PLM systems.
  • Experience with testing, validation, and data analysis of aerospace hardware.
  • Project management experience, including cost, schedule, and risk oversight (EVMS/CAM preferred).
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills in a matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements management, design, and development of assigned components, ensuring efficient execution across conception, procurement, manufacturing, and qualification.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet requirements, mitigate risks, and achieve project milestones.
  • Manage project resources to ensure timely completion of all phases.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve producibility questions and concerns.
  • Generate and manage hardware change requests with the IPD team, including upgrades, work transfers, and producibility improvements.
  • Review customer requirements with the IPD team, ensuring clarity, feasibility, and alignment with project goals.
  • Address revisions with Design, Structures, and Systems Engineering teams, managing issues, risks, and approved deviations.
  • Coordinate with design, drafting, structures, manufacturing, and quality teams to complete component designs and detailed drawings on schedule.
  • Ensure design releases meet lead times for part deliveries.
  • Serve as Cost Account Manager (CAM) for assigned components, managing budget, earned value, and scope.
  • Monitor project financial health, identify risks to budget or schedule, and report changes accordingly.
  • Lead evaluation and development of new technologies, collaborating with local and international teams to advance Technology Readiness Levels (TRL).
  • Ensure timely hardware procurement and completion of production processes, including assembly tooling and production definitions, to meet delivery milestones.
  • Lead component verification testing, including reviewing requirements, preparing test procedures, managing test fixtures, overseeing inspections, and collaborating with internal and external test facilities.
  • Review test data, verify acceptance criteria are met, and generate final test reports for customer submission.
