About The Position

The Air Transport Paramedic provides advanced critical care and life support to critically ill or injured patients during air, ground, and ECMO transport operations. This role includes assessing patient conditions, performing advanced medical interventions within CareFlite’s scope of practice, and ensuring safe, efficient, and timely transport. The Air Transport Paramedic works collaboratively with nurses, pilots, dispatch, and healthcare professionals to deliver compassionate, patient-focused care while maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate/bachelor’s preferred)
  • Current Texas Paramedic licensure
  • Certifications: BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP (preferred upon hire; all required prior to air orientation completion)
  • TPATC or ATLS audit preferred upon hire; required prior to air orientation completion
  • Minimum 3 years (4,000 hours) experience in a busy 911 system as primary/lead care provider
  • FP-C or CCEMT-P preferred; FP-C required within 18 months of hire (first attempt within 12 months of hire date)
  • Ability to perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting/carrying patients/equipment up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must successfully pass background check, drug screen, physical assessment, and audiology test.
  • Maximum allowable weight: 230 lbs. in full flight gear.
  • Must demonstrate emotional resilience, multitasking ability, situational awareness, and professional composure under high-stress conditions.

  • Works cohesively with transport partners, nurses, pilots, dispatchers, and hospital staff to ensure coordinated, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
  • Conveys information clearly and effectively with team members, patients, families, and partner agencies while maintaining professionalism under stress.
  • Consistently follows aviation, ground, and medical safety protocols and maintains awareness of environmental and operational factors.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and ethical standards. Accepts responsibility for actions, decisions, and patient outcomes, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Provides patient-centered care that reflects empathy, respect, and dignity, balancing clinical urgency with sensitivity.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning, maintaining all required credentials, and participating in education and quality improvement initiatives.
