About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Air Quality Permitting Engineer to join our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Air Quality Compliance team in the Bay Area. The primary emphasis of the group is to support clients with their air quality and regulatory compliance needs for a variety of industrial, federal, and municipal, and private-sector clients. The Air Quality Permitting Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships; managing complex environmental compliance projects and programs; and mentoring and developing junior air quality staff. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing clients in California, particularly the San Francisco Bay Area, and along the West Coast, as well as the ability to utilize his or her air quality experience to help our clients navigate their environmental compliance challenges. Qualified candidates will have excellent analytical, writing, presentation and managerial skills, with a background in air quality and Bay Area Air District permitting and compliance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education of air quality experience in the Bay Area Air District.
  • Valid US Driver's License and pre-employment driving record verification is required.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or civil/environmental engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education of air quality experience in the Bay Area Air District.
  • 5+ years of project/program management experience directly related to environmental compliance projects from proposal development through completion for an environmental consulting firm (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients, projects, and project teams; coordinating resources and managing subcontractors; etc.).
  • Certification by a California air district as a permitting professional.
  • Practicing knowledge of current generation air quality models: including AERMOD, HARP, and/or CalEEMod.
  • Extensive experience in Title V/PSD permitting and regulatory applicability analyses.
  • Experience working with agency members at California air districts, such as SJVAPCD, MDAQMD, SDAPCD, SCAQMD and/or CARB.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal air quality rules and regulations including district regulatory programs, MACT/BACT/LAER requirements, New Source Review (NSR), the federal Clean Air Act, and greenhouse gas regulations.
  • Ability to independently manage various environmental compliance projects and programs ranging in size and scale.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and leading project teams for environmental compliance work.
  • Ability to support business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our environmental compliance work with existing and new clients.

  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients to enhance client retention and growth.
  • Managing projects which include preparation air permitting, air emission inventories, ambient air sampling, and other air quality compliance projects
  • Research, review, and analyze air quality policy and regulations.
  • Support regulatory compliance tasks relating to air quality
  • Mentoring junior staff and leading project teams for environmental compliance work.
