About The Position

Under general supervision, inspects and repairs refrigeration equipment, walk-in boxes, ice makers, window air conditioner installation throughout hospital. Performs repairs on refrigeration equipment and fan coils. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Completion of a trade apprenticeship program Required
  • 4-6 years of experience as a refrigeration mechanic Required
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.
  • Operates and maintains all types of testing equipment, electric tools and shop tools, i.e. drills, drill press, soldering iron, acetylene torch and oxygen welder.
  • Performs brazing and soldering of equipment.
  • OHS Annual Assessment Required
  • OHS Fit Test Required
  • Valid E.P.A. Universal Certificate for Refrigerants Required

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspection, maintenance and repair of all refrigeration equipment in facility including ice makers, fan coils, walk-in boxes, medication refrigerators, Ductless AC units, fan coil units, water chillers, filter replacement, and installation of window A/C units.
  • Inspects, tests, determines and performs the necessary repairs of refrigeration systems or equipment throughout the plants.
  • Assignments are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with Medical Center standards.
  • Install or replace thermostats and air conditioning units.
  • Fabricates various metal parts to repair equipment, working from blueprints or sketches.
  • Replace and repairs motors, valves gaskets.
  • Performs brazing, soldering of equipment.
  • Lubricates motors and compressors.
  • Documents repairs and parts used.
  • Prepare written requests for repairs.
  • Maintains clean work area.
  • Assignments are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with Medical Center standards.
  • Inspects and operates refrigerating machinery and cooler and freezer units to determine that all are functioning properly.
  • Reads thermometers and gauges and records readings.
  • Assignments are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with Medical Center standards.
  • Performs related duties as required (e.g. assisting in fire, flood and snow emergencies).
  • Services are provided in emergency situations on a reliable and timely basis.
