The Air Base Security Guard (ABSG) position is a critical role within the New York State Military and Naval Affairs, specifically designed to provide security and related services at various Air National Guard Bases (ANGBs) across New York State. This position is governed by New York State Military Law and is not part of the Classified Service. As an ABSG, you will be responsible for enforcing standards of conduct, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and procedures within the Air National Guard (ANG) Area of Responsibility (AOR). You will patrol flight line aircraft and other federal equipment to deter criminal activity, detect fires, and respond to emergencies. Your duties will also include performing inspections of weapons and ammunition vaults, controlling entry and exit of personnel and vehicles, and maintaining communication with the Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC). Under the direct supervision of the Unit Chief of Security Forces or other designated supervisors, you will be expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness and agility, meet mission-specific weapons qualification requirements, and adhere to all safety and security protocols. The role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and you will be required to carry firearms, necessitating eligibility for a handgun permit in New York State. This position is essential personnel, meaning you will be expected to perform your duties regardless of external circumstances. The ABSG will also be responsible for maintaining appropriate records of all actions taken, responding to incidents, and dispatching security personnel as needed. You will be required to undergo medical screenings, including drug testing, and maintain a favorable background investigation to ensure suitability for the role.
