Job Summary The Air Balancing Technician will be responsible for testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) HVAC air and hydronic systems to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with design specifications, building codes, and industry standards. This role plays a critical part in delivering occupant comfort, system reliability, and proper system operation in commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred).
  • 1–3+ years of experience in HVAC testing, balancing, commissioning, or related field (entry-level candidates may be considered).
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems and airflow principles.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and airflow principles.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with airflow measurement tools and digital reporting software.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Nice To Haves

  • NEBB, AABC, or TABB certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Proficiency with airflow measurement tools and digital reporting software.
  • Background as an HVAC technician, installer, or service technician.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing of HVAC air and water systems (supply, return, exhaust, chilled water, hot water, and condenser water systems).
  • Measure airflow, pressure, temperature, humidity, and velocity using calibrated instruments.
  • Adjust dampers, valves, fan speeds, VAV boxes, and controls to meet design specifications.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Verify HVAC system operation and identify deficiencies or performance issues.
  • Document test results and prepare detailed TAB reports for clients and project teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and building owners.
  • Ensure compliance with NEBB, AABC, TABB, or project-specific standards.
  • Maintain and care for testing instruments and calibration records.
  • Follow safety procedures and company policies at all times.
  • Assist with commissioning activities when required.
