About The Position

The Instructional Aide position at Ombudsman Educational Services involves providing individualized supervision and instruction to students, particularly those with disabilities, while supporting classroom staff. The role focuses on implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and fostering a safe and engaging learning environment. The Aide will work closely with students to enhance their academic, social, and behavioral skills, ensuring they meet educational goals in a supportive and structured setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in an education or related field preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a paraprofessional or similar credential.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an alternative or special education setting.
  • Experience with individuals with learning disabilities or emotional behavioral disorders preferred.
  • Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in motivating students and having critical conversations to help them achieve goals.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including Microsoft Office Suite and basic office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting classroom teachers to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for students.
  • Implementing curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies consistent with each student's goals.
  • Instructing and monitoring students during lessons to ensure fidelity of instruction.
  • Encouraging and monitoring individual student progress and communicating with teachers about interventions needed.
  • Managing student behavior and applying appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Supporting and counseling students with academic issues and helping them improve various skills.
  • Completing accurate documentation on student behavior and reporting observations to relevant staff.
  • Assisting in the preparation of behavioral reports and daily activity logs as required.
  • Communicating necessary information regarding students' needs and academic progress to relevant parties.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participating in assurance and accreditation processes to meet performance plans.
  • Participating in school and student advisory meetings as requested.
  • Responding constructively to feedback and performing other assigned duties.
