About The Position

The Aide, Head Start, is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in the overall operation and activities of Head Start in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards. All district employees are expected to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, with physical presence expected as part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance. Employees must support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform their essential duties. The role requires adaptability to changes in the work environment, managing competing demands, accepting criticism and feedback, and changing approach or method to best fit the situation. Cooperation is essential, including establishing and maintaining effective relations, exhibiting tact and consideration, displaying a positive outlook, offering assistance to co-workers, and working actively to resolve conflicts. Dependability involves responding to requests for service and assistance, following instructions, responding to management direction, taking responsibility for actions, and meeting attendance and punctuality guidelines. Job knowledge includes competence in required skills, ability to learn and apply new skills, keeping abreast of current developments, requiring minimal supervision, understanding how the job relates to others, and using resources effectively. Safety and security procedures must be observed, appropriate action determined beyond guidelines, equipment and materials used properly, and potentially unsafe conditions reported. The responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the district.

Requirements

  • One year of increasingly responsible experience in early childhood.
  • Maintains an active Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Florida Department of Education Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate.
  • Maintains certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supports children in all activities, and assists when adult help is needed.
  • Participates in daily, weekly, and long-range planning.
  • Assists in the set-up, operation, and maintenance of instructional equipment and aids.
  • Performs light custodial duties that relate to the safety and hygiene in the classroom and other environments accessed by the students under the direction of the teacher.
  • Monitors student behavior using positive behavior supports and interventions in the classroom or lunchroom, on school grounds, and at off-campus activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Participates in ongoing student data collection.
  • Participates in maintaining current records.
  • Participates in parent involvement activities, including but not limited to maintaining/updating parent areas (e.g., bulletin boards), posting parent training and announcements, and assisting with parent/volunteer training in classroom.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, professional communication among students, staff, and parents, as applicable per the direction of the teacher.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development training.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
