The AI Program Director at the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of transformative AI projects across the Executive branch. This role involves overseeing AI initiatives from concept to deployment, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, ethical standards, and state regulations. The director will manage a team of AI professionals and deliver executive-level reporting to communicate the impact of the AI program, while ensuring the responsible deployment of AI technologies.

  • Overall management of EOTSS' AI programs, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope and budget.
  • Collaborate with agency partners to define AI solutions that address business challenges and drive innovation.
  • Manage, track, and coordinate AI Project Requests to be reviewed by the AI COE, including documentation of identified risks or considerations and follow-up questions and topics for project teams.
  • Coordinate meetings and discussions between EOTSS stakeholders and AI project teams to review use case considerations and follow-up questions as needed.
  • Develop AI Project Evaluation response documentation and communicate with AI Project leads regarding the AI COE's evaluation of their project.
  • Manage and maintain a centralized inventory of AI tools and capabilities leveraged by the Executive Branch, working with stakeholders across the Commonwealth to capture usage and deployment of AI.
  • Develop the agenda for the AI COE / AI Project Evaluation meeting series and lead discussions with key stakeholders across the COE.
  • Track and document ongoing AI COE program initiatives, including policy and documentation updates, Executive Branch communications and guidance, and training program development.
  • Ensure AI initiatives comply with state regulations, industry standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Stay informed about advancements in AI technologies and advise leadership on strategic AI opportunities and risks.
  • Define performance metrics and KPIs to measure the success of AI initiatives and their impact on the organization.
  • Manage project resources, including budgets, timelines, and team members.
  • Communicate project status and results to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in AI program execution.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing on AI best practices across the organization, ensuring that training programs are developed and delivered effectively.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant IT experience, preferably in a leadership role focused on the development, implementation, and management of AI technologies and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with AI technologies, machine learning frameworks, and data science methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, ethics, and regulatory concerns related to AI.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale technology projects with complex deliverables across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience working within or leading a Program Management Office (PMO) or AI-focused initiative is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent project management skills, with proven experience using project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience managing AI initiatives within a government or public sector environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar).
  • Experience in a managerial capacity for at least three (3) years.
  • Relevant certifications in AI technologies, project management, or related fields are preferred, but not required.
