About The Position

This position will be focused on compliance work in connection with content moderation and SaaS platform support for artificial intelligence (AI) related platforms. This position will include the management of policies and procedures in the furtherance of Qualcomm's strategy of developer enablement. This role will be inclusive of conducting inbound and outbound software reviews in support of hosted services and will encompass the identification of legal issues around various datasets and AI models. The successful candidate will work closely with software developers to understand how hosted third-party software, models and datasets may be effectively reviewed for content compliance and provide legal support to Qualcomm's content moderation team. Inclusive of this function, the candidate will also advise on how internally developed software should be integrated with an AI software development tool chain hosted on Qualcomm's AI related platforms. In association with datasets and AI models, the candidate will analyze license terms, evaluate IP considerations, analyze terms of use, and review/advise on model/data cards. Additionally, the candidate must maintain an ongoing, broad awareness of Data and AI-related regulations and case law including regional trends, investigate regulatory concerns, and support internal compliance initiatives. Collaboration will also be needed with cross-disciplinary subject matter experts on adjacent concerns such as exports, cybersecurity, data management, privacy, procurement, copyrights, and with the business unit legal teams. Prior legal experience with SaaS business approaches, platform hosting, datasets, AI models, privacy, technology transfer, and intellectual property are positive considerations for this role. Experience and creativity in negotiations, as well as a willingness to engage with the global developer community to keep pace with normative practices are additional key considerations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree or international equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house.
  • Active bar license to practice law in the state or jurisdiction where the employee will be practicing (or ability to obtain upon hiring).

  • 5+ years' experience as counsel at a law firm or in-house with a focus on SaaS platform legal support, content moderation legal issues, technology licensing, or intellectual property (inclusive of software, AI, and related areas of practice)
  • Ability to appropriately address a series of complex practical scenarios in the area of content compliance and/or AI legal issues to be given during the interview process
  • Knowledge of software, AI/ML, deep learning/neural networks, and content management operations, acceptable use policies, digital rights management, social media liability issues, and SaaS platform/cloud services.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field, with significant exposure to computer science-related course work, or a Bachelor's degree in a non-engineering field coupled with substantial experience supporting software development, AI/ML, content management, or SaaS platform/cloud services.
  • Prior legal experience with SaaS business approaches, platform hosting, datasets, AI models, privacy, technology transfer, and intellectual property are positive considerations for this role.
