About The Position

FMI is seeking a hands-on, highly collaborative AI Engineer to help design, build, and productionize advanced AI systems that support the firm’s digital transformation. This role will focus on deploying LLM-powered assistants and intelligent agent workflows that enable FMI’s consultants, investment bankers, and corporate teams to accelerate research, improve information discovery, and streamline day-to-day workflows. The AI Engineer role is primarily hands-on, with approximately 80% of time dedicated to technical build, integration, and delivery, and 20% focused on stakeholder alignment, design documentation, and iterative discovery. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role has no direct reports but will lead cross-functional project teams and influence stakeholders across Corporate Services, Consulting, and Investment Banking. This is a regular, full-time position based in Raleigh, NC, Denver, CO, or Tampa, FL, operating within FMI’s hybrid work model (3 days per week in-office). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. FMI is unable to provide visa sponsorship—including H-1B or STEM OPT—at this time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 4+ years of software engineering experience with production systems, preferably in AI, automation, or data-intensive environments.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering production-grade LLM applications beyond prototypes.
  • Experience building multi-step AI agents, LLM chaining, and workflow automation.
  • Strong expertise in prompt engineering and optimization techniques.
  • Experience building and integrating APIs across enterprise platforms (e.g., Salesforce, DealCloud, NetSuite, HubSpot, Box).
  • Experience deploying and managing AI services in cloud environments (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP acceptable).
  • Familiarity with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel.
  • Working knowledge of distributed architectures, vector databases, and data pipelines supporting AI workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with consultants, bankers, and corporate teams to translate business needs into practical AI solutions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in business-relevant terms.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and iterating quickly with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy production-ready LLM-powered assistants and AI agent workflows that improve research, information discovery, and internal workflows across FMI.
  • Develop multi-step, context-aware AI agents capable of reasoning, planning, and executing tasks such as market research synthesis, financial modeling support, and document preparation.
  • Build and maintain backend infrastructure, APIs, and integrations connecting AI capabilities with FMI platforms (Salesforce, DealCloud, NetSuite, HubSpot, Box) and internal data repositories.
  • Improve enterprise search, semantic retrieval, and recommendation systems to surface relevant prior work, benchmarks, and industry data.
  • Advance prompt engineering, evaluation, monitoring, and testing practices to ensure reliability, accuracy, scalability, and responsible AI use.
  • Author clear design and requirements documentation (PRDs) and collaborate closely with consultants, bankers, and Product Owners to translate business needs into production-ready AI solutions.

Benefits

  • FMI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including fully paid employee medical insurance, life insurance, and long-term disability coverage, along with additional benefit elections.
  • The package also includes a competitive 401(k) plan, paid time off (PTO), and parental leave.
