About The Position

We recently launched a rapid RNAseq product that's been gaining strong momentum (https://www.reddit.com/r/labrats/comments/1pchtfx/plasmidsaurus_rnaseq). In the past 6 weeks, over 1000 scientists have already worked it into their research program. It comes with an interactive data visualization tool for scientists to explore their sequencing data. However turning these results into an actionable conclusion still requires deeper investigation. Our goal is to tell a story about their biological system, that doesn't simply summarize the output of standard analysis tools, but surfaces important insights into a cohesive explanation. As an AI Engineer, you will design and implement Agentic Bioinformatics systems that help scientists understand that story, by interrogating the raw RNA-seq results, connecting observations to existing research literature, and generating concrete hypotheses and next-step experimental designs. Your work will directly shape how scientists make decisions. By surfacing key biological signals, identifying likely failure modes, and suggesting better experimental paths, these tools can save researchers months chasing dead ends and accelerate progress toward real discoveries. You’ll act as a thought partner embedded in the research workflow, helping scientists move faster and with more confidence on groundbreaking medical research.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, or relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Python.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-based systems in production.
  • Experience building LLM-based systems that integrate structured data, tool-based reasoning, and stateful agent workflows (e.g., tool-calling, iterative analysis loops, evidence-grounded generation).
  • Strong systems thinking: ability to design reliable pipelines, APIs, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally with bioinformatics, product, and lab teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with RNA-seq or bioinformatics concepts (DEGs, normalization, pathway analysis) or demonstrated ability to quickly learn scientific domains.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Agentic Bioinformatics systems that help scientists understand that story, by interrogating the raw RNA-seq results, connecting observations to existing research literature, and generating concrete hypotheses and next-step experimental designs.
