  • Provides medical care to patients under the supervision of a physician.
  • Conducts physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Works closely with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
  • Educate patients and their families about healthcare issues, disease management, and preventive care.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and manages a wide range of medical conditions.
  • Prescribes medications, develops patient treatment options, interprets and verifies test results.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare providers for continued education to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  • Examine patients, take medical histories, maintain patient records, identify health risk factors, prescribe medications, make referrals, and otherwise treat health conditions.
  • Focus on patient wellness and disease prevention.
  • Provide health education services and/or counsel patients on how to make healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Will need to work weekdays, occasional weekends and nights for call coverage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Knowledge of the PA's role, scope of practice, and legal requirements.
  • Understanding of provider's specialty area as it applies to Occupational Medicine.
  • Knowledge of scope of prescriptive and dispensing authority.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Understanding of laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and medical practices in Occupational Practice.
  • Understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards.
  • Understanding of communicable diseases and their control and treatment.
  • Ability to perform physical assessment and analysis.
  • Problem solving and documentation skills.
  • Ability to initiate the appropriate emergency response.
  • Ability to perform or order and interpret routine diagnostic laboratory tests.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and cultures.
  • Ability to handle a number of tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to translate health information to patients.
  • Ability to assist or consult with physicians.
  • Ability to recognize the signs and symptoms of disease, while understanding their relationship to each other.
  • Ability to obtain, organize, and construct a patient database which accurately describes the information available for a given patient at a given point in time.
  • Ability to develop a problem list from the patient database.
  • Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to clinical situations.
  • Ability to manage common health problems with physician supervision.
  • Ability to communicate empathetically with patients and knowledgeably with the physician.
  • Ability to competently perform technical procedures.
  • Ability to obtain brief, as well as comprehensive, patient histories, with an emphasis on occupation and exposure.
  • Ability to perform complete or focused physical examination as indicated.
  • Ability to select appropriate diagnostic studies in the evaluation of patients.
  • Ability to identify the potential relationship between patient symptoms and occupational/environmental exposures.
  • Ability to diagnose and manage occupational/environmental illnesses and injuries, with the use of consultants in related disciplines when indicated.
