About The Position

Under direct supervision, the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Intern supports the Northwest Alaska Area Health Education Center in delivering structured programs for students and certificate-based trainings for community members. This role combines clerical support with hands-on program facilitation to introduce participants to healthcare careers, strengthening the local healthcare pipeline through early exposure and foundational skill-building. Uphold the organization’s vision, mission, and corporate values. Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with organization’s policies, procedures, code of conduct and work rules.

Requirements

  • All Norton Sound Health Corporation employees are expected to have general knowledge of typical office technologies such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and typical office software.
  • None may be required for clerical support
  • Specific knowledge based on field of study and progression within degree

  • All employees should have patient/customer service skills, interpersonal skills and good communication skills.
  • All employees should have the ability to manage their time and organize their work to ensure efficient performance.

  • Finally, all employees should have the ability to understand and manage patient/customer confidentiality.
  • Excellent organization skills with attention to detail, possessing the ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, consideration and confidentiality towards others
  • Comfortable working with youth and representing AHEC in a positive manner.
  • Diploma
  • Required work study for specific field

Responsibilities

  • Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development
  • Perform duties within the appropriate scope of work allowed based on training, etc.
  • Follow protocols as established by the direct supervisor
  • Participate in meeting department goals for performance while learning
  • Perform other duties as assigned
