About The Position

Join the Discovery family, where quality and service are at the heart of everything we do! This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: The Hills, in East Quogue, New York. The Hills is seeking a SEASONAL AGRONOMY INTERN to join the Golf Course Maintenance Department. This position is offered March 1 – September 1, 2026. The Agronomy Intern must have a genuine interest in golf course management or turf care. This position will support the overall maintenance of the golf course and related equipment and assisting the team in the daily activities on the golf course, including golf course set-up, weekly cultural practices, fertilizer application/calibration, and solving and repairing irrigating issues. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a college program related to turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or similar (preferred) or related experience.
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and take direction from experienced team members.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborating with the maintenance crew.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges throughout the internship.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of horticulture or related field is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily turf maintenance and course set up to ensure optimal playing conditions.
  • Support all aspects of golf course maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation.
  • Application of fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Aid with moisture management practices thought the golf course
  • Participate in irrigation system maintenance and repairs under supervision.
  • Help upkeep of golf course landscaping.
  • Work alongside the maintenance team during special projects and seasonal preparations.
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of all grounds for the project including landscape, grounds and common areas.
