About The Position

This position is located at the Director's office (DO) at the National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment, Midwest Area (MWA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). In this position, you will manage data acquisition, communication, and management activities in a large, integrated program consisting of a set of interconnected studies and associated grant-funded research.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Direct Deposit - Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  • Specialized experience directly related to the position to be filled.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing data management technologies using LTAR and STEWART databases in R or Python.
  • Utilizing artificial intelligence (A.I.) and other machine learning to implement strategies for data use.
  • Applying Arc-GIS techniques to collect ecological data from sensors.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and manage data from the numerous greenhouse, laboratory, plot, and field projects.
  • Develops and produces interim reports and visual presentations for quality assurance (QA) and scientific purposes.
  • Participates on a team with oversight of unit computer and network operations.
  • Manages the regular communications of data via telemetry and other means.
  • Ensures production and availability of consistent and complete metadata.
  • Provides coordination of data acquisition, communication, and management to existing and new staff.
