About The Position

Sparta Area Schools is a community-focused district deeply rooted in a region with a rich agricultural heritage. We are incredibly excited to be expanding our Agriscience department and actively developing our newly formed Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter! Position Overview Sparta High School is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and highly collaborative educator to join our team as an Agriculture and Mathematics Teacher. This unique dual-role is perfect for an innovative teacher who can bridge the gap between STEM concepts and real-world agricultural applications. A major focus of this role will be working closely with our current Agriscience teacher to expand our course offerings and playing a foundational role in building, growing, and leading our new Sparta FFA program.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
  • Endorsements in Mathematics (Secondary) and Agriscience/CTE (or willingness to pursue alternative CTE certification/annual authorization if possessing strong industry experience).
  • Strong team-player mentality with a demonstrated ability to co-plan and collaborate.
  • Excellent communication and community outreach skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with FFA (as a student, alumni, or advisor) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in both High School Mathematics and Agriscience
  • Collaborate closely with our current Agricultural Education teacher to align curriculum, coordinate programming, and strengthen course offerings
  • Play an active role in developing and growing Sparta High School’s newer FFA program, including co-advising, student leadership development, event coordination, and community engagement
  • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data, strengthen instructional practices, and ensure curriculum alignment
  • Maintain strong classroom management and foster positive relationships with students and families
  • Serve as a Co-Advisor to our newly formed Sparta FFA chapter. Help us build this program from the ground up by recruiting students, establishing chapter traditions, and electing/training student officers.
  • Prepare and coach students for Leadership Development Events (LDEs) and Career Development Events (CDEs).
  • Foster relationships with local Sparta-area farmers, agribusinesses, and community stakeholders to secure resources, guest speakers, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) opportunities for students.
