About The Position

The Agriculture Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of agricultural machinery and equipment. This includes tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and other specialized farm equipment. The role requires strong technical skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to provide high-quality service to ensure equipment is operating efficiently in the field. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, able to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and comfortable working in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Experience as an agriculture service technician or in a related mechanical role, preferably working with agricultural machinery.
  • Familiarity with major agricultural equipment brands such as John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, or Kubota.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a deep understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and computer-controlled equipment.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools used to troubleshoot and repair modern agricultural machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical/hydraulic schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills to quickly and accurately identify the root cause of mechanical issues.
  • Ability to develop effective solutions to repair and maintain equipment, minimizing downtime and costs for the customer.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to explain technical issues to customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a commitment to high-quality service and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment (up to 50 lbs), work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks such as kneeling, bending, and climbing.
  • Willingness to work in field conditions, sometimes outside normal business hours, to provide emergency service.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be preferred for field service.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or completion of an agricultural mechanics or heavy equipment repair program preferred.
  • Manufacturer-specific certifications from brands like John Deere, Case IH, or Kubota are an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and computerized systems in agricultural equipment, including tractors, combines, tillage machinery, and other farm implements.
  • Troubleshoot issues such as engine failures, transmission problems, electrical malfunctions, and hydraulic system breakdowns using diagnostic tools and service manuals.
  • Perform field service repairs on-site when required, including emergency breakdowns, to minimize downtime for the customer.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, greasing, and tire servicing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all types of agricultural machinery to prevent major breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Calibrate, adjust, and test equipment to meet manufacturer specifications and ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Assemble and install new agricultural equipment, ensuring proper configuration and functionality according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Set up GPS, automated steering systems, and other precision farming technology, providing training to operators on how to use these systems.
  • Communicate with customers to explain the nature of mechanical issues, provide repair options, and offer cost estimates.
  • Educate customers on proper machine operation, maintenance schedules, and troubleshooting techniques to extend equipment life.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality repairs and timely service, with a focus on minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate service records, including parts used, repairs performed, and maintenance activities for each piece of equipment serviced.
  • Order necessary parts and manage inventory to ensure that common repair items are readily available.
  • Keep updated on the latest technology and repair techniques by attending training sessions and reviewing technical bulletins.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper handling of hazardous materials and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Safely operate tools, machinery, and vehicles during repairs and service tasks.
