About The Position

AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER PROTECTION SUPERVISOR - SES FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES DIVISION OF CONSUMER SERVICESBUREAU OF STANDARDS INTERNAL AGENCY OPPORTUNITY--ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OFAGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES WILL BE CONSIDERED. The headquarters for this position is negotiable within Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach County.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and eight (8) years of professional or technical experience in consumer complaint program work, business administration, consumer or public relations, investigations, administrative work, professional regulation, or a field related to the area of responsibility; or
  • A bachelor's degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional experience in consumer complaint program work, business administration, customer or public relations, investigations, administrative work, professional regulation, or a field related to the area of responsibility; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
  • This position has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of s. 112.313, Florida Statutes, and Section 60L-36.003, F.A.C.
  • Moderate travel, including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks at a time on an emergency program, is required.
  • This position involves inspection duties that require the physical ability to perform activities that include, but are not limited to:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to fifty pounds approximately 50 times per day
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, climb, stand, and walk several hours each day
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises inspectors engaged in the inspection and testing of commercial weighing and measuring devices; sampling of petroleum products, brake fluid and anti-freeze; operation of motor fuel facilities; inspection of packaged products; and conducting price verifications.
  • Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with division and department policies and procedures.
  • Conducts audits, assigns and reviews the work and progress of each inspector and makes periodic performance appraisals; provides counseling and guidance as needed; conducts training and/or retraining sessions on an individual or group basis; stays abreast of current inspection procedures, laws and regulations, industry trends and safety related issues. Enforces personnel rules and regulations.
  • Audits and approves expense accounts of each inspector on a monthly basis; performs frequent audits and reviews of the overall condition of the assigned region; makes recommendations to superiors as changes or improvements are needed and makes daily report of activities.
  • Conducts special investigations on the more complex or serious violations of state laws and regulations; coordinates certain investigative work with the enforcement personnel in other governmental agencies; appears in court or at hearings as an expert witness in cases relating to measuring devices or substandard products.
  • Contacts public and industry representatives to assist with consumer complaints to resolve problems dealing with enforcement of laws and regulations; may be called upon to speak at civic clubs or other groups about programs.
  • Reviews applications, conducts applicant interviews for employment and completes employment packages, making recommendations concerning hiring of new employees in supervised positions. Complies with federal/state employment laws, personnel rules, and department policies and procedures during recruitment and selection process. Submits recommendation package within the timeframe set by the division.  Performs related duties as required.
