About The Position

The Agriculture Apprentice - Vegetables position at Rock Bottom Ranch is a hands-on learning opportunity designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. This apprenticeship provides comprehensive exposure to all aspects of vegetable production, from planning and cultivation to sales, while also offering educational opportunities in regenerative agriculture practices. Apprentices will gain practical experience and knowledge, preparing them for future roles in agricultural operations.

Requirements

• Exposure to agriculture production through internships, volunteering, or equivalent experience.
• Interest in pursuing farming as a career.
• Strong work ethic and understanding of the physical demands of farm work.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Capability to lift heavy items.

• Respect for farm products and fellow crew members.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual, particularly conversational Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Assist with vegetable production including soil preparation, seed propagation, irrigating, transplanting, and cultivation.
• Assist with harvesting, washing, packaging, and sales of final vegetable products.
• Assist with sales of produce and meat at farmers' markets and at the ranch through farmstand and CSA pick up.
• Assist with maintenance of the vegetable production area by mowing and weed whacking.
• Assist with the daily care of livestock including cattle, sheep, goats, laying hens, meat chickens, turkeys, rabbits, and bees.
• Participate in humane, on-property animal harvesting of chickens and turkeys.
• Lead public farm tours and assist with educational programs.
• Participate in on-farm events, including dining events and educational programs.
• Assist with lawn care, trail maintenance, and maintenance of the ACES Habitat Garden.
• Perform after-hours, on-call responsibilities for animal care and site maintenance.

Benefits
