About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Cherry Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products. This Agricultural Technician II position will support research efforts in the Livestock Unit. Our ideal candidate will have experience in general animal agricultural production, pasture and forage production, and general farming practices. This position will require some rotating shift, weekend, holiday, and overtime work depending on station needs. Additional duties include: • Animal husbandry activities include feeding, milking, data collection, and manure management. • Maintenance of fences and facilities. • Operating farm equipment. • Tasks related to pasture and forage management.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of agricultural animal husbandry
  • Ability to operate farm equipment.
  • Ability to use a variety of power and hand tools commonly used in equipment, facility and yard maintenance.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual duties both inside and outside under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to independently lift 50lbs routinely.
  • Must possess or qualify for certification/licensure within 12 months of employment for the following: Valid Commercial Driver's License (Non-Exempted Intrastate)
  • Forklift Driver Certificate issued by Research Stations Division
  • Obtain Medical Clearance to wear half/full face respirator with cartridges.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in the general care and management of animals or crops, or laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
