About The Position

The Agricultural Science Research Technician (Plants) position at the US Agricultural Research Service involves maintaining and calibrating equipment for agricultural research, assisting in resolving technical issues, and operating field machinery. Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Motor Vehicle or Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Pesticide Applicators License required within six months of start date.
  • Specialized experience in agricultural research or related fields, as defined for GS-6 and GS-7 levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in plant breeding research projects.
  • Graduate level education in related fields such as Biology, Plant Pathology, or Agricultural Science.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, calibrate, and modify equipment and automated systems for test and evaluation procedures.
  • Use software packages, especially MS Excel and PowerPoint, for data management and presentations.
  • Assist in resolving technical difficulties and developing recommendations for issues.
  • Operate basic field machinery such as tractors, planters, cultivators, and sprayers.
  • Erect and disassemble controlled pollination structures in the field and greenhouse.
  • Keep detailed records of experimental data and maintain supply records.
  • Arrange timely ordering of necessary supplies.
