About the position

Come work with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) where we continue to make Kentucky Proud! The Department of Agriculture, Office of Agricultural Marketing, Plant Division, Producer Services Branch, Organic Section is looking for a Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Under direct supervision, learns to conduct reviews of applicants' Organic System Plans to gain specific knowledge and training in the National Organic Program standards and regulations. Requests additional information from the applicants in relation to their Organic Plans as needed. Processes applications and collects and maintains application fees. Under direct supervision, learns to conduct basic Organic inspections in accordance with 7 CFR part 205 Federal Regulation which outlines the requirements for Organic certification. Assists Organic Section with administrative work, including implementing and maintaining the Kentucky Organic Producers database and program. Interprets organic standards as outlined in 7 CFR part 205 Federal Regulation to the public and departmental employees. Supports management within the Office of Agricultural Marketing as needed i.e. working at the State Fair, performing basic Hemp inspections and assisting with the Specialty Crop Block Program. Interprets departmental policy to the public and departmental employees. Under direct supervision, learns to orchestrate the federal organic cost share program administered by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, including correspondence with the United States Department of Agriculture and clients. Acts as a liaison to the National Organics Program to facilitate Kentucky's cost share program as needed. Other Duties as Assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some organic knowledge is preferred.
