About The Position

This is a responsible administrative position requiring knowledge and experience in livestock animal care/handling, machinery operation and the application of farm related chemicalsA. Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics". B. Thoroughly know, understand, and comply with Agency procedures, rules and regulations, Florida State Statutes, the Florida Model Jail Standards and accreditation standards relating to this position. C. Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment as necessary. D. Be responsible for all animal care operations and chemical applications under his/her command. E. Follow directions laid out for feeding regiments and wound treatment of livestock animals. F. Daily assessment of seized/impounded livestock health, including looking for subtle changes in body condition, walking, vibrancy, and demeanor. G. Report any injuries or health concerns to the Agriculture Unit Supervisor as soon as practical. H. Ensure hay, feed, medication, and other supplies are on site, ordered when needed, restocked appropriately. I. Clean stalls, as needed, for animals required to be housed in barn. J. Review all newly adopted policies, procedures, rules and regulations affecting the farm's operations and ensure comprehension and compliance among all farm staff. K. Conduct daily inspections of the farm and report those deficiencies that cannot be immediately corrected. L. Perform general farm maintenance, to include upkeep of fencing, gates, barns, water troughs, and pastures. M. Provide technical assistance to farm staff and inmates. N. Provide assistance to the MCSO Mounted Unit in the upkeep of equine health and welfare. (i.e., feeding, barn cleaning, etc.) O. Assist in identifying unit training needs and developing job-related training. P. Coordinate and assist with farm tours, meetings and community programs when needed. Q. Be alert for conditions or situations that inhibit efficient operation of the Agency, Agriculture Unit or the Agriculture Livestock Farm and make recommendations for solutions. R. Abide by all E.P.A. and State regulations governing the storage, application, notification, disposal, etc. of all applicable chemicals related to agricultural farm care. S. Ability to safely operate farm equipment, pull and back trailers, and transport animals as needed. T. Possess normal sight and hearing, and physical agility required for standing, walking, bending, and climbing stairs. U. Perform other related duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the Sheriff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Be capable of presenting accurate information to groups and organizations outlining the Farm Operation while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to follow instructions and organize own work.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to operate various farm equipment. (i.e., tractors, cattle chutes, OK corral, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and follow English language instructions, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the public and Agency personnel.
  • Possess normal sight and hearing, and physical agility required for standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver's License or CDL as needed.
