About The Position

Maintain, coordinate, and participate in NFREC-Quincy center-wide pesticide recordkeeping, perform computer-oriented duties for farm office and center records. Apply pesticides and fertilizers to research plots and center grounds. Calibrate sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, and handheld boom sprayers. Serve as lead for lower-level farm crew when assigned. Perform field and greenhouse work: planting, maintaining, and harvesting research crops. Operate a variety of farm equipment, including state vehicles, for land preparation, planting, spraying, and harvesting of research plots and center grounds. Implement research projects with each program as necessary, implement and coordinate sampling of farm research blocks for ph readings and aid in performing laboratory procedures using a variety of laboratory equipment. Assist with various activities associated with field days as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • The selected candidate must obtain a pesticide applicator license within six (6) months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in the operation of computers (familiarity with Windows OS, Microsoft Office) and computer-related tasks.
  • Ability to perform basic agricultural skills.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance and repairs on farm machinery.
  • Prior experience with GPS-assisted equipment operation.
  • Ability to work in hot, humid environments and cold environments in winter.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team situation.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to record data accurately.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with colleagues.
