About The Position

The Vermont Attorney General's Office (AGO) seeks a talented and experienced Paralegal to provide legal services to the Consumer Protection Unit (CPU), consisting of eight Assistant Attorneys General (along with one other paralegal and two investigators). The CPU handles cases in all areas of Vermont's consumer and antitrust laws, which prohibit businesses from engaging in unfair or deceptive acts or practices. The CPU does this by: investigating serious or widespread allegations of consumer deception; where appropriate, filing suit against those who have violated consumer protection and related laws; resolving consumer abuses in a way that restores consumer losses and deters future violations of law; issuing consumer protection rules or guidance; appearing before the Vermont Legislature on consumer protection issues; commenting on federal laws and regulations of interest to Vermont consumers; and conducting consumer education and working to encourage fair business practices. The CPU also works with the Attorney General's Consumer Assistance Program ("CAP") to assist consumers and small businesses to understand consumer laws and rights, and to investigate and resolve disputes, through outreach, education, mediation and other methods. Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher in criminal justice, law, or related legal field, or paralegal certificate AND two (2) or more years of experience performing paralegal duties.
  • Four (4) or more years of experience performing paralegal duties.
