The Agent Assistant for 4-H and Master Gardener programs at Auburn University is a part-time, limited-term role focused on implementing and coordinating youth programs in Mobile County. This position involves working directly with youth, preparing educational materials, and supporting the Master Gardener program to enhance community engagement and horticultural education.

  • Implement and coordinate the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program for the Mobile County Extension Office.
  • Assist in preparing curriculum and implementing youth-related programs.
  • Work directly with youth activities and support the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Coordinator.
  • Provide support to the Alabama Master Gardener program to increase home horticulture information availability.
  • Organize and coordinate Alabama Master Gardener classes, including scheduling and materials preparation.
  • Manage volunteer opportunities for Master Gardeners, ensuring alignment with local projects and community needs.
  • Provide training and assistance with inputting volunteer hours into the Master Gardener system.
  • Organize and manage speaker requests from community groups and gardening clubs.
  • Attend and participate in Mobile County Master Gardener General and Board meetings monthly.
  • Capture photos and create engaging social media posts to promote the Alabama Master Gardener Program.
  • Support the promotion of Master Gardener programs through various channels.
  • Assist with the set-up and breakdown of events, workshops, and community outreach activities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in educational program organization or related experience for Level I.
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience for Level II.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Access.
  • Good organizational skills to maintain records of youth education sessions and progress.
  • Experience in recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers.
