About The Position

The mission of the Food Bank is to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community.  To fulfill our mission, we source and acquire nutritious food and other products and distribute them to people experiencing nutrition insecurity through our partner agency network and directly through programs; energize the community to get involved and support hunger relief; and conduct hunger and nutrition education and awareness campaigns and advocate for public policies that benefit the people we serve.  Food Bank employees are hired because of their unique skills, diverse perspective, and their commitment to our mission. The Agency Relations Director is responsible for the implementation, ongoing management, and strategic growth of programs and initiatives within the Agency Relations Department. The Director oversees agency compliance, programs, and department staff, including Managers and Supervisors. The Director manages department operations, ensuring effective implementation of TEFAP, pantry programs, food safety, quality, and performance initiatives. Participates in the development of current and long-term objectives, policies and plans, strategic goals, identifying strategies to enhance service protocols, and represents the Food Bank in the local community and at State/Federal level, including the California Association of Food Banks and the CA Department of Social Services.

Requirements

  • This position calls for an energetic and analytical individual who can maintain in-depth knowledge of the issues pertinent to the Food Bank’s organizational purpose including Hunger, Emergency Food, Government Food Programs, etc.
  • Demonstrate experience managing a high-performing team in a multi-site structure to include professional development and mentorship.   
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of program planning, organizational structure, budgeting and administrative operations. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies. 
  • Strong relationship builder with the ability to find common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders. 
  • Strong community awareness and astuteness. 
  • Ability to successfully navigate in a fast-paced, outcome-driven and entrepreneurial environment.  
  • Works effectively with staff members at all levels of responsibility within the Food Bank. 
  • Passion for the Food Bank’s mission and commitment to the values of the organization: “collaboration, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, respect, service, stewardship & accountability” with an ability to communicate this passion to others. 
  • College degree with emphasis in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management or related field is preferred; 8 – 10 years related experience in a leadership role; or combination of education and experience. 
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills are required 
  • Work experience must demonstrate the ability to plan strategically and to successfully guide/execute special events such as conferences, presentations, etc. 
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Navision). 
  • Strong analytical capabilities needed to formulate and prepare reports; strong presentation skills including networking and public speaking. 
  • Superb organizational skills. 
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License and have access to a reliable, insured vehicle. Must be able to travel within Los Angeles County as required. Work assignments may include various facilities and hubs across Los Angeles County, including locations in Los Angeles and the City of Industry, CA. Flexibility to commute between Food Bank facilities as needed is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Program & Operations Management: Works closely with Operations, Inventory Control, and other internal stakeholder to ensure logistical, contractual and other requirements are adhered to and reported on in a timely and accurate manner. Oversees allocations of products with donor specifications, special events, and requests by agencies. Respond to government and foundation requests for proposals and applications in partnership with senior staff; coordinate planning and activities necessary for development of model program designs in response to RFPs. Oversees the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual reports, analyzes program and contract implementation, functions, procedures and results. Prepares, distributes and maintains records and reports, and training manuals. Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on business needs
  • Compliance, Reporting & External Relations: Oversees program operations, finances, and compliance for TEFAP, Pantry, and Onsite Programs. Responsible for working with State contacts, Community representatives, and Agency representatives. Attends seminars, workshops and conferences at the local, state and federal level. Monitors agency and client satisfaction via polls, focus groups and other communication methods. Travels to (using personal vehicle) various sites throughout Los Angeles County to ensure thoroughness of work performed, resolve concerns or complaints and ensure the satisfaction of customer sites.  Travels outside of Los Angeles County for conferences, and Food Bank meetings.
  • People & Culture / Leadership: Ensures the department provides a variety of culturally diverse, responsive and high quality services to assist partner agencies and distribution sites in reaching their highest level of service through: best and evidence based policies and practices approved by the Food Bank, consumer approach to delivery/distribution services in response to needs based assessments, assistance offered for individuals and families to provide support, food education, awareness and resources, provides leadership for improving training, deployment and optimization of the workforce. Oversees program operations, finances, and compliance for TEFAP, Pantry, and Onsite Programs. Oversees the team’s efforts by working closely with Managers, Supervisors and Line Staff.   Provides day-to-day management oversight for agency field management to ensure food compliance with all contracted legal entities and professional regulatory bodies.  Develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward vision and goal, by clearly communicating agency vision, implementing yearly staff development plans and mentoring. Recruits, interviews, hires and manages personnel in conjunction with Human Resources. Provides timely feedback, performance management, etc. Create and support a high-performing culture in the department aligned with Food Bank core values.
