About The Position

The Agency Instructor I will perform training for various specialty, skilled and/or semi-skilled courses, specifically Confined Space Entry, within the Water & Wastewater program. The instructor will utilize his/her knowledge of various adult learning theories and learning styles to help maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. They will perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or may provide technical assistance in a specialty area while using a variety of media to present course material. The instructor may assist in creating new content or updating existing curriculum content, when necessary, to meet the learner’s needs. The instructor is expected to maintain their technical competence and skills. The purpose of this position is to perform instruction in proper confined space entry procedures and serve as a subject matter expert regarding confined spaces. In addition to instruction, duties will include delivery, set-up, and maintaining the confined space entry trailer as well as all the safety equipment within the trailer. This position reports to the Agency Training Manager. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of hands-on experience in performing confined space entries and the operation of, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems.
  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have a valid Class “A” CDL or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
  • Must have one of the following licenses: Texas Class “B” Water license (or higher), Texas Class “B” Wastewater license (or higher, Texas Class “B” Distribution license OR Texas Class III Collection license.
  • TCEQ Sponsor Requirements 60 hours of classroom instructional experience OR Completion of approved Instructor training courses in: 1. Methods of Teaching OR Effective Instructional Techniques AND 2. Instructional Design and Evaluation OR Organizational and Use of Training Materials OR – the ability to attain within 6 months of employment
  • Equivalency: Will consider an Associate’s Degree with five years of experience in performing confined space entries and the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems OR a High School Diploma/GED with seven years of experience in performing confined space entries AND the operation, maintenance, design, construction, or regulation of water utility systems. Must also have TCEQ Sponsor Requirements or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
