About The Position

The Youth Services Afterschool Program Aide supports the implementation of engaging, developmentally appropriate afterschool programming for early childhood-aged children. Working alongside the Activity Leader, they help create a joyful, safe, and nurturing environment that supports early learning through creative play, arts, movement, and exploration. Qualified candidates enjoy working with young children, are patient and energetic, and are committed to fostering positive social-emotional development. Previous experience supporting young children (including as a paraprofessional, classroom aide, camp counselor, or early childhood assistant) is a plus but not required. College students and day school staff are encouraged to apply. Requirements

  • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual
  • Must have passion for the Greenwich House mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development
  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with early childhood aged children and supporting their social, emotional, and developmental growth
  • Ability to support early learning through creative, play-based activities, including arts and crafts, games, movement, and social-emotional learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and staff
  • Experience working with children ages 3-11 in a group setting
  • High School Degree/Equivalent required. AA or BA in-progress preferred
  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to fingerprinting, employment history, and criminal background check
  • Must complete mandatory DOH/OCFS training prior to employment

Responsibilities

  • Support the Activity Leader in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based activities that promote creativity, movement, and early learning
  • Assist with small-group and whole-group activities focused on arts, music, movement, imaginative play, and hands-on exploration
  • Help establish and reinforce clear routines, expectations, and positive behavior guidance suited for young children
  • Provide support during transitions, snack time, outdoor play, and dismissal
  • Assist with activity setup, cleanup, and preparation of materials
  • Supervise children during activities and trips while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment
  • Foster a warm atmosphere of fun and learning and serve as a positive role model, maintaining professional boundaries at all times
  • Promote positive character development, social skills, and cooperation in all children
