About The Position

Group Leaders are enthusiastic, highly motivated role models who are directly responsible for the well-being and safety of participants in the 14th Street Y After School community. They will work with children ages K-5th grade and will be supervised by the After School Program Manager, collaborating with Social Work Interns and Teachers when necessary.

Requirements

  • Availability to work on site at the 14th Street Y from 2:30pm-6:15pm at least 2 days per week from September 16th - June 5th and staff orientation in September
  • Bachelor's degree or currently pursuing a degree with at least 1 year of professional experience working with youth
  • Previous experience working with children ages 5 to 10 years old strongly preferred
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications or the ability/willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all community members, including modeling and facilitating positive conflict resolution
  • Ability to be a mentor and be a resource to students, staff, families and embrace/foster cultural inclusiveness

Responsibilities

  • Attend all days of staff orientation before After School (September 2024)
  • Attend all scheduled days of After School and monthly staff meetings during the year (After School runs from September 18th, 2024-June 5, 2025)
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Afterschool Program Manager
  • Work harmoniously with assigned co-Group-Leader(s) and Social Work Interns
  • Maintain standards of Afterschool conduct, behavior management protocols, and inclusion
  • Uphold and implement Afterschool values (Personal Growth, Empathy, Respect, and Passion)
  • Attend regular supervision and participate in evaluation processes
  • Adhere to agency and site-specific safety standards
  • Comply with city and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Support youth development through After School programming including Art, Sports, Science, Music, Theatre, Academic Support, Shabbat programming, and more
  • Develop a rapport with participants and parents, maintaining safety and confidentiality
  • Assume responsibility for the physical and mental health and safety of children in the Afterschool Community
  • Keep a record of student activity, behavior, and injuries/accidents
  • Pick up children from local schools and safely transport them to the 14th Street Y when assigned
  • Actively participate in and support campers throughout all activities
  • Provide quality supervision at all times during school pick-up, in assigned homeroom, during snack, throughout activities and all transitional periods
  • Assist Teachers with children’s needs during activities and step in to lead if/when necessary
  • Lead at least one easy-going class a week such as boardgames, ball games, yoga, watercolors, with support from After School leadership
  • Encourage all participants to participate and be their on-site daily support system
  • Focus on social dynamics and friendship building of assigned children
  • Ensure children are safe and abiding by pool rules during required monthly swim duty
  • Be responsible for overall cleanliness and organization of spaces and supplies
