How BrightBee Works: You’ll be an essential part of our dynamic workforce as an independent contractor , ready to respond and commute to on-site work opportunities at nearby K-12 schools and nonprofits via the BrightBee app. You’ll be able to pick which work assignments match your experience, preferences, and schedule and will never have to take on an assignment that you don’t feel is a fit for you . What You Will Do: We have a new partner in the Modesto looking for afterschool group leaders to lead engaging, hands-on culinary wellness classes for students in TK–8th grade. Group Leaders will deliver pre-designed lessons focused on nutrition, cooking skills, and student wellness during afterschool and intersession programming. A Day in the Life: Schedule & Commitment: This is a part-time, in-person position during after school hours, typically between 1:00–6:00 PM, on Friday's , depending on district site schedules. Daily prep and clean-up time are included in the schedule. Training & Support: Paid training is provided, including an initial one-day onboarding session. Instructors also receive ongoing coaching and periodic refresher training (a few hours each semester) to ensure confidence in classroom delivery and continued program quality.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in grades TK–12
  • Must be comfortable leading small groups and managing a classroom environment
  • Must be able to see and hear clearly, communicate effectively, and perform frequent physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting students (with assistance), and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity and mobility across various work environments, including occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to handle standard kitchen tools (e.g., knives, blenders, food processors) safely and effectively
  • Reliable transportation to travel to multiple school sites within a single district (no same-day multi-site travel required)

  • Preferred: background or interest in health, wellness, or basic cooking/meal preparation

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the classroom space and materials in accordance with provided lesson plans
  • Manage food and ingredient prep before and during class
  • Lead student instruction and maintain behavioral expectations
  • Distribute required RCA program materials to students
  • Communicate regularly with RCA team and site-based afterschool program directors
  • Ensure a fun, engaging, and inclusive environment that supports student wellness
  • Must wash and reset all classroom materials after each session
