Afternoon Assistant Teacher

About The Position

Are you happiest when your day includes story time, helping tiny humans feel safe, and being part of something meaningful? If so, First Steps Academy would love to meet you. We are looking for an Afternoon Assistant Teacher who brings energy, flexibility, and heart to our classrooms. In this role, you’ll support children across all age groups — from cuddly infants to curious kindergarteners — wherever help is needed most. No two afternoons are the same, and that’s part of the magic.

Requirements

A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day.
High school diploma preferred.
Experience working with children preferred.
Must be physically able to lift and carry a minimum of 45 pounds, engage in physical activity with children, and work indoors or outdoors.
Must be able to constantly move and interact with the children to provide stimulation and develop relationships.
Must be able to alternate often between sitting and standing.
Must be able to maintain sight and sound of the children at all times.
CPR and First Aid certified or willingness to obtain.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Pass pre-employment screenings and trainings as required.

Responsibilities

Support children’s learning through play, exploration, and connection
Assist Lead Teachers with daily activities, routines, and transitions
Provide loving supervision that helps children feel safe, seen, and supported
Jump in to help with snacks, diapering, rest time, outdoor play, and classroom activities
Help maintain a clean, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment
Be a positive, calming presence during busy afternoon hours
