About The Position

Goddard Riverside is partnering with the Susan Rubenstein Foundation to ease poverty and expand opportunities for children and families by operating a high-quality afterschool program on the Upper East Side. The Jack August Afterschool Program, located at the Stanley Isaacs Community Center, serves young people from the Isaacs/Holmes NYCHA development. The program operates during the school year on weekdays, providing safe, enriching, and developmentally appropriate activities during non-school hours. Programming is intentionally designed to reflect the needs, interests, and strengths of the local community. The Afterschool/Behavior IEP Coach provides targeted coaching and support to students with identified communication, behavior, social-emotional, and IEP related needs. The role reinforces expressive/receptive language development, articulation, emotional regulation, and positive behavior strategies within an enrichment setting. This is a coaching role, not a clinical or therapeutic and designed to complement school-based IEP goals through structured support, relationship building, and skill practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communication Disorders, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Behavior Intervention, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with children who have IEPs, speech delays, behavioral needs, or SEL challenges (school or afterschool setting preferred).
  • Knowledge of child development, communication development, SEL frameworks, and positive behavior interventions.
  • Experience implementing communication or behavior support strategies in structured or enrichment settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, families, and program leadership.
  • Basic technology skills (documentation, communication, scheduling).
  • NYS Comprehensive Background Check (CBC)
  • SCR (Statewide Central Register) clearance
  • SEL (Staff Exclusion List) clearance
  • Fingerprinting through OCFS/DOH systems
  • Medical clearance as required
  • Completion of all required SACC trainings, including Foundations in Health & Safety
  • Mandated Reporter training (Child Abuse Identification & Reporting)

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group coaching focused on speech, communication, behavior, and IEP-related goals.
  • Support articulation, expressive language, receptive language, social communication, and functional communication skills.
  • Teach SEL strategies such as self-regulation, coping skills, conflict resolution, and emotional expression.
  • Utilize school-aligned approaches based on IEP recommendations (with parent consent and proper release forms).
  • Track student progress and maintain brief session logs, behavior notes, and strategy plans.
  • Collaborate with afterschool staff to reinforce communication and behavior strategies across program routines.
  • Assist in developing individualized behavior support strategies within the afterschool environment.
  • Communicate professionally with families as needed to ensure alignment with existing supports.
  • Ensure a supportive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and all organizational protocols.
