About The Position

Provides direct supervision of a group of children aged 5-12 in the After School Program. Providing a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises a group of children with a creative, fun, positive attitude. Implement program activities and curriculum that is culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with YMCA values. Assists with homework help. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards. Attends staff meetings and trainings. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Must be available at the following times: Mon-Thursday 3:00-6:00 Friday 2:00-5:30
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp or after school setting.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time
  • Occasionally must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
