About The Position

This position is responsible for:Leads children's activities at an after-school program including classroom training, tutoring, assists with homework, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area. Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers from school to the Salvation Army facility for after school care.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required,
• two years experience teaching child development programs in a church,
• any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Valid state driver's license
• C.P.R. and First Aid Certifications
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
• Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum.
• Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
• Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
• Develops and implements lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities
• Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
• Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
• Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
• Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in after school activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.
• Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.
