About The Position

Provides guidance for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children. Supervises a group of children. Promotes a positive environment for children, parents and staff. Demonstrates an understanding of the developmental needs of children and families, and strong communication skills. Exhibits good judgment, and the ability to create an inclusive environment. Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Current state approved first-aid certification.
  • Current state approved community CPR certification.
  • TB test by the Manitou method.
  • Must be cleared through the Sacramento City Unified School District Immunization Records which must include, DTAP, MMR FIV shot or Waiver and TB School-Age programs: 12 credits in elementary education, or the educational equivalent, in courses such as recreation, physical education, education, music, art, psychology or social services.
  • Experience in working with children the same age as those to be supervised.
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements programs in accordance with the YMCA's goals and policies.
  • Coordinates activities that fit the children’s developmental needs.
  • Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children.
  • Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
  • Communicates with families and maintains positive relationships.
  • May conduct conferences.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Provides assistance to the supervisor and may fill in during temporary absences.
  • Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of the site.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
