Must love working with both children and adults and be able to perform outdoor duties Experience working with school age children is required Hourly rate starting at $18.00 per hour Part-time PERA Retirement Benefits Responsibility to verify experience rests with employee SUMMARY: Responsible to lead and support children in the After School Program during educational and recreational activities and field trips. Duties include providing direction, guidance and assistance to students; effectively handling student discipline situations; ensuring student safety and security; communicating with parents, staff, teachers and site leader; opening, closing and securing school building; preparing snacks; cleaning student areas; recording attendance; assisting sick or injured students; assisting After School Program Supervisor or Site Leader with supervision of staff; and creating new activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 460 verifiable hours of experience working with elementary school age children.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be qualified based on the Department of Human Services regulations.
  • Criminal background check required for hire prior to working with children
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required prior to working with children
  • Standard precautions certification prior to working with children
  • Medication Administration certifications within 30 days of hire
  • Colorado Immunization training if required
  • Must have a current physical before starting work
  • Must complete current state required annual continuing education
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job. Includes adapting to and mastering new system applications and processes as implemented by The Academy or department.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Authorizes policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of information technology systems and any other department specific software and equipment required within one month after entering position.
  • Must love working with both children and adults and be able to perform outdoor duties
  • Experience working with school age children is required

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor the children at all times.
  • Create, supervise, support, guide and assist students during crafts, art projects, games and other activities to provide developmental stimulation and meet the children’s needs.
  • Create interesting, educational activities to engage the interest of students.
  • Monitor student behavior during activities, effectively handle student discipline situations and encourage and support positive behavior.
  • Record attendance and contact parents regarding absent students.
  • Observe the children and monitor the safety and security of the building at all times to ensure the children’s health and safety.
  • Once medication administration certified, distribute medicine to students as directed and provide general First Aid when needed.
  • Accurately account for all the children in the program and in your care at all times.
  • Maintain student to staff ratios.
  • Assist After School Program Program Supervisor and/or Site Leader with developing and supporting the After School Program Ai d e s including mentoring, training, and completing paperwork, interviewing and hiring.
  • Supervise and maintain order of staff and students and communicate any issues to the Program Supervisor or Site Leader.
  • Assist the Site Leader in reviewing 504 plans and IEP’s to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with parents, staff and teachers information regarding child and/or program.
  • Call parents to get authorization for an unauthorized adult to pick up the student from the program.
  • Check identification of adults picking up students.
  • Open and close school building and secure school building at the end of the program by locking doors and turning off lights.
  • Prepare snacks and clean the activity, cafeteria and kitchen areas after use.
  • Assist Site Leader / Program Supervisor to maintain the confidential child record.
  • This may include the complete of the Colorado immunization training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
