About The Position

The Community Center After School Drop-In Program Counselor plays a vital role in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children during after-school hours. This position is responsible for supervising and facilitating a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities that promote the well-being and development of participants. The counselor will work closely with children of diverse backgrounds and ages, ensuring their safety while encouraging positive interactions and personal growth. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with parents, and community partners to create a cohesive and enriching program experience. Ultimately, the counselor contributes to fostering a nurturing atmosphere where children feel valued, motivated, and empowered to explore their interests and build essential life skills.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in a recreational, educational, or childcare setting.
  • Basic knowledge of child development principles and safety protocols.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with all state and local regulations related to child care.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • First aid and CPR certification. (training offered)
  • Experience working with children with diverse needs, including those with special needs or behavioral challenges.
  • Bilingual abilities or experience working in multicultural environments.
  • Previous experience in after-school or youth programs

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage with children during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist with the planning, organizing, and leading a variety of age-appropriate activities including games, arts and crafts, homework assistance, and group projects.
  • Promote positive social interactions and conflict resolution among participants to build a respectful and inclusive community.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding participant progress and concerns.
  • Collaborate with team members and program coordinators to continuously improve program quality and address the needs of children and families.
