WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are hiring part-time dance and creative movement specialists with training to teach classes in our after school enrichment programs. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING The After School Dance Specialist is responsible for planning and leading engaging, age-appropriate dance programming for students in grades Pre-K through middle school. This role promotes creativity, physical activity, and self-expression while building confidence, teamwork, and a love for movement. The Dance Specialist serves as a positive role model, creating an inclusive and supportive environment that reflects the organization’s core values of positivity, empathy, commitment, ambition, and inclusivity. Depending on your availability and skill set, you can expect to work between 10 to 15 hours per week, earning a competitive hourly rate. Our coaches and specialists typically work in various schools throughout the weeks.

Requirements

Experience teaching creative movement to groups of elementary and/or middle school children.
Possess at least two years of prior teaching experience in different creative movement and dance genres.
Possess strong interpersonal skills to relate to younger children, work with different age groups, and partner with school staff to support children’s physical and emotional needs.
Be available to work Monday - Friday during after school hours (2-6pm) to teach creative movement and dance lessons and help children prepare for ongoing performances.
Ability to reliably commute to multiple locations throughout the week to teach classes throughout NYC.
Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation will be required before starting.
You must pass Federal and NY State background checks and be willing to complete Department of Education fingerprinting before starting.

Nice To Haves

CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement structured dance lessons across multiple dance styles.
Create progressive lesson plans that build skills, creativity, and confidence over time.
Adapt programming to meet varying age groups, ability levels, and student needs.
Organize informal performances or showcases when applicable.
Commit to partaking in all enrichment coach trainings throughout the school year Virtual and in person
Foster a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
Build positive relationships with students while encouraging teamwork, self-expression, and respect.
Model and promote positive character development and healthy peer interactions.
Use positive reinforcement and positive language at all times when engaging with the students.
Actively supervise all students to ensure a safe and structured environment.
Incorporate appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, and injury-prevention techniques.
Respond appropriately to injuries, behavioral challenges, or conflicts, following organizational policies.
Work closely with site leadership and other program staff to align programming with overall site goals.
Communicate effectively with coaches and leaders regarding student participation and progress.
Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to actively engage with youth.
