About The Position

The After School Counselor at the John McClure Snook Family YMCA in Foley, AL, plays a crucial role in meeting the YMCA program objectives for After School programs. The counselor is responsible for fostering personal growth, leadership, and support among participants, while also clarifying values and appreciating diversity. The position emphasizes the development of skills that improve personal and family relations, all while ensuring that the experience is enjoyable and character development is modeled and implemented. The counselor works directly with participants under the supervision of the After School Director, engaging in program activities and ensuring the safety of all participants.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
• Desire and ability to work with children.
• Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety at all times by never leaving children unattended.
• Have total accountability for his/her group.
• Participate positively in activities with the children.
• Maintain upkeep of equipment, supplies, facilities, and vehicles.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings.
• Spend individual time with each child when given the opportunity.
